In most offices, each associate is granted a small cubicle to call their own. It would contain a computer, monitor, telephone, and basic office equipment such as pens, paper, scissors, tape, etc. These items are necessities, items that must be readily available in order for the associate to complete their job. In most instances it is up to the associate to decide how to display these items and to decide if any personal items are to be brought into the space as well. Don’t underestimate the importance of added your personal touch to your workspace. People tend to be more productive and happy in places that reflect their own tastes and ideals. Please be sure to check the rules/regulations of your company before bringing anything into your work space. Also, keep in mind that most office spaces have a steady stream of people coming in and out of the space. These people could include co-workers, clients, cleaning staff, maintenance crew, etc. You don’t want to bring anything into your space that is expensive or irreplaceable as theft or damage may occur. Here are a few ways you can decorate your workspace to gain maximum comfort and productivity.
1- Choose a few inspirational quotes to put on your cubicle wall. You will want to choose quotes that motivate, calm, or inspire your creativity. Read the quotes when you are feeling stressed, unmotivated or just need a little inspiration to make it through the day. You can choose topics about dealing with difficult people, productivity, or even self-worth. Check out, Inspirational Quotes to get you through your work week, to get started. I have compiled a list of my favorite 30 quotes that have helped me get through some challenging days at work.
2- Decorate your desk with a houseplant. The presence of plants has been known to increase happiness levels in humans. This is because people tend to feel calmer and less stressed when they are near plants. Taking care of plants can also help with feelings of loneliness or depression. This is an easy and affordable way to not only make your work space more comfortable but keep you feeling positive and in control of your life.
3- Another great way to decorate your work space is to bring in mementos that remind you of your favorite hobbies. I once worked with someone who loved to run and participated in a lot of races throughout the community. She decorated her cubicle walls with all of her racing bibs. Not only did it make her feel accomplished and happy every time she looked at her walls, but it helped her connect with some of her co-workers that had similar interests. These mementos could be as big as an entire wall of racing bibs or as small as a magnet. The point is to bring something in that reminds you of your interests outside of work, something that helps define who you are outside of work. It is important that you remember that you are more than just your 9 to 5 job.
4- Bring in pictures of your loved ones to decorate your space. Your loved ones are often the reason you get up every morning and come in to work in the first place. They are the reason why you work hard, the reason you push yourself, and the reason you fight for that next promotion. Your desire to provide for them and make them proud is what keeps you going. By keeping their pictures nearby, you have motivation right at your fingertips.
There are a lot of ways that you can decorate your workspace but the most important thing to remember is to surround yourself with items that make you feel happy, motivated, and inspired to have a great day.
