Have you ever wondered how some people become so incredibly successful? How are they able to juggle their high profile careers, spend time with loved ones, give back to the community, and still have time to relax and enjoy life? These people always seem so in control and put together. Have you ever wondered how they do it all? There are some habits that highly successful people swear by. These habits help them stay motivated, fit, and ready to tackle anything that the day has in store for them. Incorporate some of the habits below into your daily life to maximize your day and potential.
1 – Meditate
Meditation is believed to reduce stress, increase concentration, and increase self-awareness. Some celebrities that have admitted to meditating often include Katy Perry, Madonna, Hugh Jackman, Kristen Bell, Clint Eastwood, and many more. If meditation is not already part of your daily practice, try starting off slowly focusing on your breathing for 2-3 minutes. It may be hard to quiet your mind and focus at first, but it will become easier with practice.
2 – Stay Active
Everyone knows that you should exercise to stay fit, lose weight, and improve cardiovascular health but exercise actually benefits you in other ways as well. Exercise reduces stress levels, increases feelings of happiness, boosts memory, and increases productivity. These are just some of the health benefits associated with exercising. There is a lot of truth in the saying “Active body, active mind.” Try to dedicate at least 15 minutes each day to physical activity.
3 – Wake Up Early
Many successful people wake up very early every day. They rely on the extra hours to get everything accomplished rarely sleeping past 5:00 am. In a survey conducted by Jim Citrin at Yahoo! Finance, CEO’s such as Apple CEO Tim Cook, Disney CEO Robert Iger, Brooklyn Industries CEO Lexy Funk, and Starbuck’s CEO Howard Schultz all admit to waking up very early each day to get a head start on the day.
4 – Read A Lot
Reading is a great way to gain knowledge, expand your vocabulary, improve analytical skills, improve writing skills, and much more. Many successful people boast about reading often and choose books for self-improvement and educational purposes rather than for entertainment. Warren Buffet is believed to spend approximately 80% of his day reading. Mark Cuban has admitted to reading at least 3 hours every day and Bill Gates reads about one book each week. If you don’t have time to sit down and read each day, try listening to audio books. You can listen to audio books right from your smart phone while you shop for groceries, exercise, drive, or even sit in the office.
5 – Attack Difficult Tasks First
Difficult tasks are often saved for last because it can be hard to find the time and energy necessary to get these tasks accomplished. These tasks often get pushed further and further down the to-do list as people wait for the right moment to tackle them. This can actually lead to increased stress and anxiety since these dreaded tasks are left looming over the workday. Many successful people actually choose to tackle these difficult tasks first so that they can check them off of their to-do list right away. This keeps their stress levels down and their productivity up.
6 – Visualize Your Goals
Many successful people spend time visualizing their goals. The act of visualization allows you to see and feel the act of achieving the goal. This helps keep your motivated, boosts confidence, focus, and increases desire to achieve your goals. Michael Phelps, Jim Carrey, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Oprah Winfrey, and Will Smith have all talked about the power of visualization in their life. Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right!
7 – Self-Reflection
Self-reflection allows you to learn from your accomplishments and failures so that you can make the best go-forward decisions. Bill Gates once said, “It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.” One great way to utilize self-reflection is to spend 5 minutes a night answering basic questions on what worked/didn’t work throughout the day. Log this information in a journal each night and review periodically.
8 – Participate In Hobbies
Successful people often make time in their hectic schedules to participate in hobbies. Hobbies can help relieve stress, improve self-esteem, and booster creativity. They can provide great networking opportunities as well. Will Smith fences, Tiger Woods enjoys spear fishing, and Warren Buffett plays the ukulele.
These are just some of the habits of highly successful people that you can incorporate into your everyday life. Even incorporating 1- 2 of these habits can increase your productivity, motivation, and chance of achieving your goals.
