Are you looking for some fun team building activities or hoping to increase employee engagement this October? Celebrating Halloween at work is a great way to boost morale, increase team-work, and inspire creativity. There are so many different ways that you can celebrate the holiday in your office. Here are some of my favorite, work appropriate, ways to celebrate.
Halloween Treat Bake Off
A Halloween treat bake off is a fun way for everyone to show off their creative side. People can bring in cakes, cookies, doughnuts, candies, or anything other type of baked good imaginable. Have someone gather all of the treats together onto a table. Have each associate look at and taste the different types of treats and vote for their favorites. These types of contests work best when the baker’s name is NOT listed next to the treat and there are several categories to vote on. Some examples of categories could be “spookiest treat”, “best tasting dessert”, or “most creative.” Once everyone has a chance to eat and vote, have a few people tally the results and name the winning desserts.
Horror Movie Trivia
Trivia is a fun way to bring the team together. Everyone gets a chance to show off their impressive knowledge, have some fun, and learn a bit about their co-workers as well. Have the participants work in teams of 2-4 to really maximize team building. Assign a leader to put together the trivia Q&A’s and to lead the game. This is also a great way for someone to take on a “leadership” role that may not usually have the opportunity to lead and engage their co-workers.
Cubicle Decorating Contest
Set aside a few hours for everyone to decorate their office or cubicle. Each person can get as creative or decorative as they like within the allotted time period. This works best when the company supplies materials for everyone to use however each associate can be asked to bring in their own materials as well. Once time is up, allow everyone time to walk around and admire all of their co-worker’s hard work. Ask other departments to walk through and vote on their favorite decorated space.
This is a really great way to get everyone in the holiday mood. The company would need to supply pumpkins and basic materials for decorating. You can have everyone work in teams or on their own individual pumpkins. This can be turned into a contest or just a fun activity to boost the team’s morale.
Of course, no Halloween celebration is complete without costumes. Have everyone get in the Halloween mood by dressing in their favorite (work appropriate) costume. Depending on the company, employees can be asked to wear their costumes during the work day or there could be an official party time later in the day. Take a group photograph of everyone in their costumes and hang it up in the office to remember the event. You can also turn the costume party into a costume contest by allowing people to vote on their favorites. It is best to have several different categories for people to vote on.
These are just some of the fun ways you can celebrate Halloween at work. Remember that not all employees will want to participate and that all activities should be voluntary. Don’t force people to join if they don’t want to. Remember, Halloween is a great way to increase team morale, inspire creativity, and have a little fun!
